WebbFort Phil Kearny was established in July, 1866 as a U.S. Army post in the Dakota Territory near the present day town of Story, Wyoming. It was located at the forks of the Big and Little Piney Creeks and abandon in the summer of 1868. The burying ground was outside of the stockade of the fort, near Little Piney Creek. When the American Civil War broke out in 1861, Kearny returned to the United States and was appointed a brigadier general, commanding the First New Jersey Brigade, which he trained.
